Havelock, NC

We have enjoyed a wonderful weekend in North Carolina. Our pickup is not until Monday afternoon so we had all weekend to get there and just enjoy the journey.
We stopped at a truckstop in Dunn, NC. It is in the midst of a big renovation, but we good a clean, hot shower and spent the night there.
In the morning as we were eating our breakfast we noticed a black dog roaming the parking lot. Soon he came near our truck so I fed him a leftover hamburger and some of the eggs that I had been eating. Then I got him a bowl of water. He was very timid and would only allow the least little touch. If I tried to pet or touch too much, he would circle away.
We watched all morning as several people tried to coax him in. He was offered a variety of food offerings and hungrily ate them all. But would not let anyone actually ever pet him. One lady, from Maryland, patiently tried to catch him. She wanted to take him home.
When we left there he diffinately had a full belly, and everyone else still had empty arms and a sad heart for a dog that just did not understand love and trust. That is too sad.

Then we found a church in the directory and called them for information. The preacher gave me the information and gave us permission to stay in the parking lot.
Later in the afternoon someone knocked on our door and it was Preacher Logan. He was very nice and very hospitable. It was nice to meet him and we were looking forward to services the next day.
We spent the remainder of the day cleaning the truck and watching movies on TV.

The next morning we gathered with the members in worship. It was a small but very warm and gracious group of people.
We both were inspired and challenged by the message.
It was so cute to see the kids swinging palm branches in the air as we sang, Hosanna.
Afterward we were included in a fellowship meal. Food was carried in from KFC and we got to get to know more about the people there.
It was a nice time and we hope to get back this way again.

In the afternoon, we took a short drive to the post office and a nearby store for supplies. Havelock is a small town, mostly on the map because of the military base nearby. But it sure is peaceful, friendly and pretty.

It was a relaxing, refreshing weekend. Now time to get to business. We are hoping and planning to get home later this week. We haven't been home since leaving right after Christmas. We will be home about a week, but we have so much to do that I am sure we will be busy.
